Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit 2

Mt 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

Mr 3:29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, it will bring judgement in this age and the next age. In other words a person will not be forgiven for this. God will judge them for it, Mark 3:29.

This sin can be committed by a Christian (a person who knows the truth, Heb 6:4-6).

Non-Christians are not “In the law” so they cannot commit this sin, because sin is a violation of the law, and unbelievers have not chosen to be a part of the law/covenant with God, Rm 5:13.

Unbelievers can still blaspheme but they are outside the Law as Romans 2:12 shows.

Ro 2:12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

Ro 5:13 (RSV) sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law.

This is why Jesus said that the blind man’s unbelieving parents were not responsible for their son being blind in John 9:1-3.

Christians can discern/judge the sins of their brethren, but God brings forth their discipline. God also judges unbelievers, but Christians are not given the criteria to judge those outside the church, 1 Cor 5:11-13.

1Co 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? 13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

Knowing the truth is a “Key” concept in Heb 10:26. It indicates the time when God brings about judgment for believers willful sin. He brings about judgment or “The Day of the Lord” after the believer sins. This time is mentioned in 2 Thess 2:3. Judgment will not occur until after a Man sins. God’s judgment occurs after sin is comitted.

2Th 2:3 ¶ Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
(KJV)

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

As judgment pertains to unbelievers nd those who do not know the truth, Jesus prayed for those crucifying Him and asked for their forgiveness because they did not know (the truth), Lk 23:34.

Paul said the same thing in 1 Tim 1:13.

1Ti 1:13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

Lu 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

The Greek word translated as “Willfully” is numbered 1596 and it is used twice in the New Testament.

Once is Hebrews 10:26, and again in 1 Peter 5:2.

1Pe 5:2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint (#317), but willingly (#1596); not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

In 1 Pet 5:2 strong’s Greek word number 317 is used to describe a “forced action”.

In 1 Peter 5:2 the word #1596 is used to refer to an action not performed under compulsion.

It is clear from Romans 7:17 and 20 that a Christian can be compelled by demonic sources into committing a sinful act.

Ro 7:17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
Ro 7:20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

Judging a person who is ignorant of the truth could be unjust. They could be compelled by forces that they do not understand. God does however understand this and therefore He tells Christians to Judge/discern whether Christians are right. He Himself judges unbelievers because wwe do not know their circumstances, 1 Cor 5:13.

1Co 5:13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

Most of us don’t know the truth, but see it as through a glass darkly, 1 Cor 13:12.

1Co 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known

God distributes knowledge, He has it all and distributes it to others.

1Jo 3:20 ¶ For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

Ec 2:26 For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit

Job 32:8 But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

So it must be admitted that only God truly knows if a person understands the truth. If a person does know the truth and they still willfully sin God will judge them for committing that sin.

Sin can become unforgivable if the person understands that the action is indeed sinful, and continues in it.

The words “No more Sacrifice” means that Jesus sacrifice does not cover the “willful” sin. The person behaving this way invites God’s judgment.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

God tries to encourage repentance through the application of His judgment ( this point in time is referred to as the “Day of the Lord”), as is said in the following illustrations.

1Co 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the “Day of the Lord” Jesus.

Mr 3: 28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: Mr 3:29 (YLT) but whoever may speak evil in regard to the Holy Spirit hath not forgiveness–to the age, but is in danger of age-during judgment;’

The Christian who blasphemes the Holy Spirit is not forgiven, they are judged.

Mr 3:29 (TCNT) but whoever slanders the Holy Spirit remains unforgiven to the end; he has to answer for an enduring sin.”

Simply because a person is judged by God does not necessarily mean they are condemned. God’s judgment is designed to produce repentance in the individual.

  1. The end result of this blasphemy as it relates to a Christian believer is “correction”, 1 Cor 11:32.

1 Co 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

This judgment is designed by God to destroy the flesh nature within the person.

The fire mentioned in Heb 10:27 devours that which opposes the knowledge of God, 2 Cor 10:5. These things are scripturally referred to as “elemental” aspects to which a person can be in bondage, Gal 4:3 and 9 and 2 Pet 3:10 and 12.

Ga 4:9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? (KJV)

Heb 10:28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

2. As this blasphemy (or any sin) is committed by unbelievers it results in their “perishing” (Romans 2:12) because they have not desired and been granted repentance from unbelief, Acts 11:18.

Ac 11:18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life. (KJV)

Ro 2:12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

A person is either aware of the Law of God, and therefore judged accordingly or they are not aware of it and perish.

Only God’s people are truly aware of His law, and they see darkly, 1 Cor 13:12.

1Co 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Unbelievers consider it foolishness, 1 Cor 1:23.

1Co 1:23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

2Co 3:14 But their (Unbelievers) minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.

Ec 12:13 ¶ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Ps 139:4 (YLT) For there is not a word in my tongue, Lo, O Jehovah, Thou hast known it all!
