Matt 24:28

For those of you who have understood that the Day of the Lord is a separate occurrence from the Second Coming, here is something that I think validates the concept.

As we all know most Christians contend that Matt 24 describes the Second Coming.

However, I feel that Matthew 24 does not describe the Second Coming (which is for salvation, Heb 9:28) but describes the Day of the Lord ,or a time of judgment.

Heb 9:28 so Christ also, having been once offered to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time, apart from sin, to them that wait for him, unto salvation.

Matthew 24 does not describe the Second Coming but actually describes the Day of the Lord or judgment, Joel 1:15.

Joe 1:15 Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

So having shown that, I just understood that Jesus Himself in one brief statement in Matt 24:28 summarized when the Day of the Lord would occur.

Mt 24:28 Wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

Now when interpreting this it needs to be understood that a carcase is a dead body or a Christian who has been involved in willful sin.

The eagles (vultures in some translations) are the demons or thieves that carry out the discipline/evaluation that Jesus allows on the Day of the Lord, as is seen in 2 Pet 3:10.

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief; in the which the “heavens shall pass away” with a great noise (this indicates a backslidden condition), and the “elements” (elemental things or worldly/earthly behaviors) shall be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

This shows how Jesus thru the judgment/evaluation called the Day of the Lord, purifies His people.

In this way the condemnation seen in 1 Cor 11:32 is avoided.

1Co 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.
