The “Day of the Lord” is a period of discipline, Joel 1:15. Joe 1:15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come. This is similar to the Old Testament concept of “Passing Under the Rod”. Ezekiel 20:37 KJV — And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant:
The Second Coming occurs when a person repents of unbelief and God the Father sends Jesus, through the agency of the Holy Spirit, and indwells the Believer. Jesus said “It is Finished” in Jn 19:30. This being the case, any Bibilical event not recorded in scripture (such as the expected event referred to as Jesus Coming “Bodily” in Clouds) is an addition to the Bible. Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many, and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. Jesus came to mankind bodily for the first time and was crucified and ascended to Heaven as we are told in Acts 1:11. He then returns on an individual basis through the Holy Spirit as Peter tells us in Acts 3:19-21. In this manner, God, through our repentance, restores (Mt 17:11) the original relationship (lost in the Garden of Eden) between an individual and Himself, Acts 3:19-21. Ac 3:20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
The Rapture is an unscriptural addition to the Biblical doctrine. 1 Thess 4:13 through 5:6 actually refers to the Lord descending and correcting a willfully sinful (sleeping) believer. 1Th 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 1Th 5:6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
Speaking in Tongues is speaking about the “works of God” with spiritual understanding from God. This spiritual insight is not granted to unbelievers, Acts 2:11, Matt 13:10-11. Acts 2:11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. Mt 13:10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? Mt 13:11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them, it is not given. The communication of these spiritual insights (referred to as speaking in Tongues) begins and includes when Jesus chooses a person and they confess that “Jesus is Lord”. 1Co 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord but by the Holy Ghost. As the Christian grows in grace their knowledge of the Lord increases. If they desire and develop the gifting, the conversations regarding the “works of the Lord” can result in speaking parables as they did in the cases of Jesus and Isaiah.
