SECOND COMING
Job 19:25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
The Bible tells us the last Days were being lived out during the time that Acts 2:17 and Heb 1:2 were written. To use the term “last Day’s” as a proof that the last days are still a future time instead of a present reality has no scriptural validation.
Jesus was crucified while on earth and He rose from the dead while on earth, meaning that He stood on the earth after His crucifixion.
He then went to Heaven, and He said He would return, but only to those who anticipate or “look for” His return as John 14:19 and Hebrews 9:28 show.
Jesus comes from Heaven to earth after His crucifixion in Acts 3:19-21. He returns to those who “look for Him”.
Jesus said that He would not be seen by the world after His crucifixion in John 14:19.
However scripture also tells us that every eye will see Him coming for judgment.
Revelation 1:7 ¶Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
Some resourses state that a literal translation of the phrase “all kindreds” means “all tribes of the land, referring to Israel, meaning that all “Christians” or spritual Jews (Rm 2;28 and 9:6) will see Jesus coming for judgment.
Here then the concept that all the people on earth will see the Day of the Lord is seen to be innacurate, because Jesus comes only to those who look for Him, Hebrews 9:28.
Both the initial Second Coming seen in Acts 3:19-21, and any subsequent visitations refered to as a Days of the Lord, Luke 17:22 (which occur after the Second Coming when Jesus comes to His people to evaluate or judge their progress) are still only seen or understood by Jesus followers and are not seen or understood/perceived by unbelievers.
The fact that every eye will see His judgment is mentioned in parable form in Matt 24:30 and Rev 1:7. This is confirmed to be a coming for judgment or discipline by the word “mourn” in Matthew 24:30 and the use of the word “wail” in Rev 1:7.
Jesus coming for judgment is different from Jesus Second Coming which is to those who “look to Him” for their salvation Heb 9:28.
When Jesus comes to people for judgement or evsluatiom it is called “The Day of the Lord”.
Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
In Acts 2:38 Peter says that after repentance the Holy Spirit will be sent to an individual. Then in the next chapter (Acts 3:19-21) Peter says Jesus Himself will come to the individual after repentance.
Ac 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Ac 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; Ac 3:20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
Ac 3:21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
Putting Peter’s two statements together it is seen that Jesus comes to the individual through the Holy Spirit. This is confirmed by Jesus Himself in John 14:3 and John 14:18.
Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Joh 14:18 ¶ I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Joh 14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
The use of the personal pronoun “I and Me” illustrate that Jesus is saying that He personally comes through or in council/concert with the Holy Spirit.
